Get Healthy and balanced in 10,000 Steps

We all strive to be as healthy as we are able to be but we do not always have time that we need to get in all of the exercise that is required to be so. This is definitely why some health professionals are advocating the ten thousand step method. The plan is that you take at least ten thousand steps each day (walking) which can help you get very healthy and cut down on the time that is required for exercise. Walking is a excellent, low impact, workout. How often have you heard “if he’d simply taken a walk around the block now and then?”

Obviously walking ten thousand steps each day is not going to be simple. That’s a lot! The good news is that you almost certainly already take most of those steps each day already and don’t know it yet. What you’ll want to do is figure out how to incorporate several more thousand steps to get to the goal. So how do you accomplish that without feeling like you’re spending half of your morning walking around?

There are a bunch of totally obvious things you can apply to take more steps. Use the stairs as opposed to the elevator–that’s quite simple. You could also decide to park a long way away from the front door of the store or the mall. You could also simply run all of your purchases out to the car when you buy them rather then carting them around from store to store as you shop and take care of your errands. Taking public transit can also improve your step count as you need to walk to your bus or train stop and then back home instead of just walking to your car. And, naturally, going for a short walk each day is a great way to increase your step count.

Some less clear methods to grow your step count are also available. Plan a grocery store shopping list differently. Plenty of people set up lists by the aisles in their preferred stores. Instead, plan your list into unique categories like produce, dairy and meat. Simply buy along the list from here. You could find yourself making many trips back and forth across the store, but it is a great way to grow your step count. Put your mailbox on a post along at the curb as an alternative to on your door or in your wall. This can add at least a couple of dozen steps to your count on a daily basis as you walk from the door to the box and back.

There are lots of ways to take more steps on a daily basis. As you get used to the idea of walking 10,000 steps a day you’ll think of excellent ways to get to this goal faster. Thankfully, each and every step you take–whether it’s walking toward the refrigerator or running on a treadmill, counts toward your end step count goal. Have fun with this!
